Fairfield is excited to be coming to this year's Elkhart County 4-H Fair! We will be set up from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, on the east side of the fairgrounds near the main gate. Stop in, have some ice cream and cold drinks on us, and find out what's new and exciting with Fairfield Community Schools!

Fun was had until fun couldn't be had Sunday as the Fairfield 12th Man Club Golf Outing took place amongst some weather at Maxwelton Golf Club in Syracuse.
The 1 p.m. shotgun start had 22 teams play the course until a big thunderstorm halted play just after 3 p.m. One of the event organizers said the storm washed out the remaining play, which most teams were into the second halves of their scramble.
The 12th Man outing supports the Fairfield football program with team expenses, as well as promotes the team and its initiatives.

Also going on in a baseball stadium in Indiana was the Indiana North-South All-Star Games, hosted by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association. The three-day event last weekend was held at Loeb Stadium in Lafayette.
Taking part were Fairfield graduated senior Alec Hershberger and Fairfield baseball head coach Darin Kauffman, who served as one of the assistant coaches.
The South won game one, 4-3, while the North rallied for a 6-4 win in game two. In the Wooden Bat Game on Sunday, Hershberger started and went 2.2 innings, giving up three hits and striking out eight while walking one. The South would go on to win the final contest, 11-6.
Hershberger is headed to Taylor University to continue his academic and baseball careers.

It was a busy weekend for activities involving the Fairfield community. We'll start this morning with Saturday night, where Benton fifth grade teacher Alex Yoder sang the national anthem before the South Bend Cubs' game against Fort Wayne.
"As a teacher, summer break provides me the perfect chance to pursue my passions and hobbies,” Yoder stated. “Singing the national anthem at the South Bend Cubs minor league baseball game was an incredible highlight of my summer adventures! The energy and family atmosphere of the stadium made for a great experience that truly captures the joy of embracing my interests during this summer time off!"

Just one camp on campus this past week, that was volleyball. Led by new interim head coach Madeline Gawthrop, the weeklong elementary camp dug into fundamentals, but was shrouded in fun including tag games, beach ball and competitions. On deck for the upcoming week are baseball and another layer of boys basketball.

Week three of the summer camp schedule is in the books, which saw the girls basketball camp take place under the guidance of its new head coach, Kyle Hartman. Boys basketball finished up the middle of a three-week run and the sixth grade band camp reached its two-week conclusion. Color Guard also had its kids camp, prepping cadets as part of the week-long Junior Guard Camp!
Marching band and boys basketball camps start up July 10. Cheerleading also had a mini camp for its junior and senior high cheerleaders, ahead of the kids camp coming in July.
Volleyball will take the stage this week with its new coach, Madeline Gawthrop, leading the way.
And special thanks to Lily Treat for the cheerleading stunt photo!

Some wicked chowdah out there this morning.
