Winter is officially here, for those who celebrate the occasion!

The kids of New Paris Elementary had a special guest today for their early Christmas party! Mac made his appearance, no doubt looking for turkey and mashed potatoes but spent some quality time with the kids as they partied hearty in celebration of a great first semester of school.

The kids are building for the holiday, in a good, communal way!
Jeff McClure’s Building Trades class spent time this morning shopping for gifts to give local families in need. All of the purchases were brought back to Fairfield High School to be wrapped and then distributed to selected families who could use an extra hand with gift giving this holiday season.
Well done everyone, way to bring some holiday cheer to those who could use a boost.

He didn't spend a lot of time on it, but time wasn't his point. Greg Hire used painting as a canvas for a bigger picture Wednesday morning at Millersburg Elementary Middle School, and hopefully made three minutes into a teaching masterpiece.

As winter break approaches, winter sports are already in full swing! All three of our programs had home games this past week. See how they did with the weekly recap below:

This past Saturday, Dec. 9, the FJSHS Robotics Team ("The Pixelators") and the MEMS Robotics Team ("Masta Peeps") competed at the FIRST LEGO League Challenge Semi-State Robotics competition at Purdue University Fort Wayne.
The Fairfield Pixelators, dressed in dark blue and coached by Becky and Jim Balon, bettered their qualifying round score at Concord a few weeks ago with a 250 in Fort Wayne on the robot challenge board. Older robots and technology delays didn't stop the Pixelators this year - way to go team!
The MEMS Masta Peeps, dressed in light blue and coached by Tim Eichorst, improved from their qualifier as well, scoring 150 points on the table. Every member of the team scored points on their mission during at least one of the three robot rounds. The team also saw improvement in their Innovation Project and Core Values from the qualifier.
Both teams represented their school and community well! Way to go!
Also, thank you to our parents not only for their support, but for offering up some pics from the Fort Wayne Semi-state!

DayInTheLife - Becoming A Bulldog
Fairfield High School senior Jenna Harlan wasn't quite prepared for one of the biggest moments of her life. Harlan was selected by the Community Foundation of Elkhart County as a 2023-24 Lilly Endowment Scholarship winner, which allows her a full ride to any college or university in the state of Indiana. Want to guess on where she really wants to go?
Read about the moments leading up to the announcement, and how the phone call went with mom in our story below. We will also post separate posts with videos capturing the moments.

Under a sheet of darkness, Benton's third and fourth grade classes serenaded a packed gymnasium with the sweet sounds of holiday music! Under the direction of Tori Shearer, Benton's students put together a fun and energetic program as Christmas rapidly approaches. A bravo! to all of the students and staff members who helped put together a wonderful musical!

Feelin' good!
Benton Elementary fifth and sixth grade students returned to Fairfield Cosmetology this morning for the annual Spa Day.
Hair, check. Nails, check.
The junior cosmetology students get more work with actual people in the chairs. The elementary students get to feel fancy and look the part. Win-win for everyone!

Millersburg's PTO organized the MEMS Student Christmas Store, and it's in business!
The PTO collects new and gently used donated items throughout the entire school year to create this amazing opportunity for students to buy gifts for family members (or sometimes themselves) at very affordable prices. All items are priced $1-5. Gift wrapping is even provided! The twinkle in these student's eyes while shopping is a pretty cool sight to see!

Fairfield will once again take part in the Parkview Sports Medicine Holiday Basketball Shootout at Trine University! Check out the press release below for dates and times for whom and when our boys will play.

Today, Fairfield's student council delivered items from the food drive to the New Paris Food Pantry. The council delivered a full truckload of items and gave the pantry a check for over $1,000.

The schedule keeps churning for our winter sports programs, and with it, some very positive results. How did our boys and girls basketball programs do this past weekend? How did our wrestlers fare at two quality invites? We even have some junior high bits mixed in!
Find the rundown here!
Included in the mix this week are also photos of middle school boys hoops between Millersburg and Fairfield provided by both Lily Thieszen and Wade Jagger, as well as team photos provided by Fairfield athletics. Thank you for the help!

DayInTheLife - The Grass Is Greener
Speaking of winning national awards, we've got another one for you all!
If you remember from earlier this fall, our groundskeeper - Dakota Steele - was among national contestants for Field Design of the Year - AND HE WON!
Steele won the Sports Field Managers Association's national contest, which sends him to Daytona Beach, Fla., in January for the national conference where he will be recognized. Since we all can't go to Florida in January, let's congratulate him now!
Full reaction from Steele and his huge accomplishment can be found here!
