The IHSAA football sectional draw is out, and Fairfield will see at least one more home game this season! The Falcons (3-5) will host Fort Wayne Concordia (2-6) in the Class 3-A first round matchup in two weeks. The winner will get either West Noble (7-1) or Angola (3-5), Fairfield traveling to West Noble or hosting Angola in a potential semi-final matchup. The top half of the draw has Lakeland (5-3) at Garrett (8-0), and Woodlan (5-3) at Tippecanoe Valley (6-2). Fairfield concludes its regular season this Friday at Churubusco.

They clean up the messes, fix all the broken stuff, get things from A to B. But just stating they are good at their jobs doesn't reflect the great people they all are. Find a custodian today and thank them, it might just make their day!

Fairfield’s Marching Pride continued to get experience among some of the top regional bands with its performance at the Charger Challenge of Bands, hosted by Fort Wayne Carroll High School. Saturday was the third invite for FMP, which saw it finish second among a group of five in Class C, just a little over 1.5 points back of NorthWood’s Red Regiment. Fairfield had a sizable scoring margin ahead of Angola, Garrett and Maconaquah in the five-band group. Fairfield was tabbed as Best Visual at Carroll, with NorthWood garnering Best Music and Best General Effect in its win. FMP is slated to perform again this Saturday at the Selmer Invite at Elkhart.

Progress is being made on the latest house project by Fairfield Builders Trades! The house is going up on CR 37 in Millersburg, and looks to be on schedule. Trades director Jeff McClure sent over this photo of the trusses being maneuvered into place, and said the dry weather in September has actually been a blessing for the crew as they have been able to get a lot more work done without the pauses for precipitation, etc. If you would be interested in having a future home built by Fairfield Builders Trades, contact McClure at (574) 831-2184.

Students in Collin Groves classroom this morning at Fairfield had the opportunity to learn about the workings of the legal system from local attorney Ryan Mehl. A fifth generation lawyer, Mehl fielded questions from the class on how long it takes to become a lawyer, how to prep for trials and who he represents, how juries are selected, some of his most difficult and favorite cases, the latter being one he settled for a friend. “I think it's helpful being in their environment where they are used to learning here, rather than them coming to my office,” said Mehl of his appearance at Fairfield, who works for Mehl & Mehl, Attorneys at Law. “Hearing about law from my family and the cases they represented was very inspiring to me growing up. Hearing about the people they fought for, trying to get justice for them, that was very inspiring to me.”

Students in Allison Schrock's sixth grade class at New Paris Elementary recently took the literal, hands-on approach to math. Using the classic 'KFC' method, students worked on completing math equations by 'Keep the first fraction the same, Flip the second fraction and Change the division sign to a multiplication sign. And what better way to learn the KFC method than a side piece of Kentucky Fried Chicken?

Today is listed as National Constitution Day, and who better to bring in to speak to Fairfield U.S. History students than a judge?!?! Judge Kristine Osterday from the Elkhart Superior Court spoke to students this morning about the U.S. Constitution, how it applies to today's judicial system, and some of the inner workings of the legal process. Students in the first session asked questions ranging from what Judge Osterday's longest court case was, what was the weirdest case, and if she was ever scared of anyone during a court case. “The students are so engaged compared to other schools I have been to, and this is so fun to do,” Osterday said following the first session. “What we do in court is not very happy. And so, even if we have a couple kids who are engaged and interested, it's one of the things which really energize me and keep me coming out to do these speaking engagements.” Judge Osterday will host Fairfield students later in the school year for a mock trial in Elkhart, showing them a more in-depth version of the court process.

Fairfield cheerleading coach Russell Ridley mentioned Saturday morning that he had worried about the overall numbers for the Fairfield cheerleading clinic. Ridley and the clinic staff were surprised to see a line out the door Saturday morning as more than six dozen kids came out for the one-day session. The campers had hand-on teaching from the Fairfield cheerleaders themselves, working through basic cheers to light stunt sessions and tumbling exercises. Safe to say the clinic was a huge success for the Fairfield cheer program!

Tomorrow is the first day for students, but today was the first day back for our Fairfield staff. We all gathered for breakfast and fellowship in the morning, recognizing our new staff, testimonials from our staff trip to Lincolnshire's learning sessions, some competitive intrasquad trivia, and a powerful message from new social worker Sara Ryman and her journey to where she is today. Our staff then broke out to the individual buildings for staff meetings before finishing their day getting classrooms ready for green flag in the morning. We are overjoyed to see our staff in place and coming together in such a positive manner to start the school year, and can't wait to see how they will impact our students and community in the days, months and years to come!
