Walkerton was the end of the line for Fairfield's postseason march. After taking an 8-0 lead, Fairfield gave up 25 unanswered points to lose to John Glenn, 25-8, Friday night in the Class 3-A football sectional semi-finals. Blake Metzger had the lone touchdown for Fairfield on a 13-yard touchdown catch from Brooks Custer, Metzger then evading Glenn for the successful two-point try. Ty'Ronn Larkin returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, then Chase Miller outran the Fairfield defense for a touchdown, the home-sided Falcons up 14-8 at that point. Miller added a field goal to end the first half, and Glenn tacked on another touchdown in the third quarter to finish out the scoring. Fairfield finishes its season 6-5 overall while Glenn (7-4) advances to face Knox (11-0) in the sectional championship.

Generational connections were being made all over New Paris Elementary on Friday as part of Grandparents Day! Kids got to take their grandparents on quick tours of the hallways and into the classrooms, take part in planned activities, enjoy a dress-up day, and also visit the Book Fair on the way out. It's always a special day when kids can celebrate their grandparents, and New Paris did it right on Friday!

Wanted to pass along a note of reference in an update we've made to give additional options for information. In the cases of our school lunch menus, we now have them listed in a pair of places in addition to your children having access to them in physical form from the schools. You can find each school's breakfast and lunch menus on our Dining tab on both the FCS website as well as the FCS app. Now, you can also find a PDF of each menu in the Documents section for each school. So to sum up, pick a school and hit 'Dining' to see the daily, weekly and monthly menus, or hit Documents and find the folders labeled '2023-24 Breakfast/Lunch Menus' to get access to the PDF files. Happy Friday!

It was a huge weekend for the Fairfield Marching Pride, showing it is a state championship contender with a pair of big performances in Indianapolis. FMP would finish in the top three of the Bands of America Showcase on Friday, joining Western and Edgewood at the top of the Class A heap. The showcase was part of the 2023 Indianapolis Super Regional at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, which featured schools from across the Midwest. The BOA was a precursor to the Decatur Central Semi-state on Saturday, where FMP qualified for the ISSMA State Finals as part of the top 10 programs in Class C, the second-largest class in Indiana. It’s the 14th straight trip to the State Finals and 27th appearance overall. Fairfield, whose program is titled ‘Speak’, is looking to improve on its fifth-place finish in 2022 and still searching for its first-ever state championship. FMP has two runner-up finishes, in 2021 and 2015. Fairfield will perform at 2:35 p.m. this Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium between NorthWood and Edgewood, with awards for Class C starting around 3:50 p.m. The Class C lineup is set as: Beech Grove, Angola, Western, Garrett, NorthWood, Fairfield, Edgewood, Fort Wayne Concordia, Northwestern and Twin Lakes. Enjoy some of photos provided by Dawn Thomas, and also find the link below from the Indianapolis Star, which has a photo gallery from the BOA on Friday! It wasn’t a widely kept secret that Fairfield had struggled against its neighbor to the northwest, the Jimtown Jimmies. The Falcons hadn’t beaten the Jimmies since the Jimmy Carter administration (1979) and had never beaten them in the state tournament, losing all seven of its tries. The streaks are over! Fairfield knocked off Jimtown, 17-6, Friday night in the opening round of the Class 3-A Sectional 26 tournament. Sawyer Ernsberger opened the scoring for Fairfield with a six-yard rushing touchdown, capped by a powerful Breckan Maran two-pointer. Jimtown countered with a Ty Zartman 67-yard bolt up the middle, but the two-pointer failed, leaving the score 8-6 home team. The Falcons answered with a drive that had Ethan Schmucker rumble in from three yards for a touchdown, but the conversion failed, making it 14-6 at the half. Fairfield hit the dagger when Ernsberger drilled a 28-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter, and the Falcons defense withstood Jimtown’s final push to close out its first sectional win since 2020. Fairfield were led by Brooks Custer, who made play after play in accumulating 127 total yards from the quarterback position. Blake Metzger added 80 yards on the ground. The Falcons (6-4) will travel to John Glenn (6-4) for the sectional semi-finals, the red-and-black Falcons a 64-0 winner over South Bend Clay in what amounted to the final-ever game for the Colonials. Clay is closing its doors in May.

Fairfield Cross Country saw its 2023 competition season come to a close Saturday at the New Prairie Regional. The girls team finished 17th overall as a unit, none of its runners able to squeeze out a spot to state. The top runner for the Lady Falcons was Kaitlyn Kuhn, who was 74th overall with a time of 21:24. Continuing down the line in scoring positions for Fairfield were Natalee Lambright (86, 21:37), Lyla Dennis (105, 21:50), Lorelei Shively (115, 22:01) and Claira Foust (155, 22:51). The boys had three runners active at New Prairie, but weren't able to keep up with the top performers for state advancement. Ethan Garcia-Mendoza (124th) and Evan Correll (130th) were within a couple steps of one another at the final, Garcia-Mendoza at 18:12 and Correll at 18:14. Luke Mast was the third Falcon in 175th at 18:44. Special thanks to Jason Grasty for the photo work at New Prairie!

It was Spa Day on Thursday for one of our staff member's pups. Finn Graves gets an A+ for his nail trim, bath and blow dry. Don't let the puppy dog eyes fool you, he was just waiting for his peanut butter stick to be refilled. His day followed with a nap! One of the perks our staff members have is bringing in their pet for our Vet Careers students and staff to do things like Spa Days, helping our students get some hands-on training in the classroom. While this is just a luxury for Fairfield staff members, we wanted to share what our students are working on in the Vet department!

New Paris Elementary recently completed its annual food drive competition. The grade who brought in the most food items, this year being sixth grade, won a pizza party. But more importantly, all of the food and donations will help the Blessings in a Backpack as well as the Fairfield Food Pantry. Congrats to all involved not just earning your slices, but helping our community!
