The final week of 2024 sports is flying toward winter break, so here we go:
Fairfield knew Fremont would be a tough opponent, and that proved the case in a 37-31 girls basketball win for the visiting Falcons Tuesday night.
A 13-5 Fairfield first quarter really was the difference as the two teams played basically even over the last three quarters. Fairfield used the duo of Madison Jones and Eva Herbert to do the heavy lifting again, the two combining for 26 points, seven assists, six steals and six rebounds. Macy Worthman added six points, four rebounds and two steals, and Haddee Herbert chipped in three points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists.
JV also battled with Fremont, settling on a 34-30 win. A slow start for both teams had everyone settle in for an almost even final three quarters. Gisel Lopez hit three big free throws in the fourth, Jenna Fought nailed a key three, and Maddie Treat’s eight points in the third quarter pushed Fairfield over. Treat finished with 12 points and Fought had eight points.

Breckan Maran and Dirk Rumfelt both got pins in under a minute, Maran at 20 seconds in the 190 card and Rumfelt at 39 seconds at 165. Aldahir Ortiz and Levi Sydor also got their mat slaps in the first period, and both Brockton Miller and Alex Hagar put away with opponents with second-period pins.
Matthew Senn was in total control of his 17-2 tech fall at 150, and Adrian Trevino got a well-deserved 6-2 decision at 215. Grant Gill added the final six points with a forfeit at 113.
It was a pinfest at Central Noble Thursday night as the two teams combined for 10 falls in the 11 contested matches. The host Cougars had eight of them in a 57-23 win over the Falcons.
Pins for Fairfield included Senn at 1:50 and Maran at 1:22, while Sydor and Gill each claimed six freebies by forfeit.
The girls also put in work at Central Noble, with Kayla Hochstetler and Jacinda Brown working for pins.
