Fairfield Community Schools were given reason to celebrate this week as two of its fourth grade students were honored with the K.I.D. award from the Elkhart Noon Kiwanis Club. Both Ian Correll at Benton Elementary and Nolan Hochstetler at Millersburg Elementary were cited for displaying responsibility, teamwork, cooperation and a positive attitude, all traits that fit the profile of a Knowledge Is Dynamite honoree.

Nolan Hochstetler, Millersburg Elementary School

Leadership traits were cited as what makes Nolan Hochstetler an award winner in the eyes of the Elkhart Noon Kiwanis Club.

Hochstetler, nominated by his Millersburg Elementary School fourth grade teacher, Laura Cassidy, earned the Knowledge Is Dynamite award representing his school and Fairfield’s school district.

“Nolan is a leader in our grade level - he leads by example,” began Cassidy. “He takes school seriously yet enjoys his time while there. Nolan stays on task and sets an example for what our expectations are for a positive learning environment with our classroom family.”

Hochstetler was one of two fourth graders from Fairfield Community Schools to win the award, joining Benton’s Ian Correll on the honors stand.

Continued Cassidy, “He is focused and works hard on his academics. Nolan is also a very good friend to his peers and consistently demonstrates kindness and consideration. He is well-liked by all. We are blessed and privileged to get to spend our days with Nolan.”

Ian Correll, Benton Elementary School

Ian Correll, a fourth grader at Benton Elementary, was recognized by the Elkhart Noon Kiwanis Club as one special K.I.D.

Correll, nominated by his teacher, Carmen Stoner, was the Fairfield Community Schools representative to win the Knowledge Is Dynamite award, demonstrating a positive and kind attitude, and being a respectful student at Benton.

“I nominated Ian for the award because I felt that he was a kid that is working hard to give his best work every day, and voluntarily gives up recesses to complete work and/or to correct his errors on work,” noted Stoner.

The Kiwanis Club honors fourth grade students in Elkhart twice yearly for their work in and out of the classroom.

“He is a very polite young man and he treats everyone with respect, he has a great sense of humor, and wants to give his best everyday,” added Stoner. “It really made my day to nominate Ian and to watch him stand with other fourth grade students from the Elkhart County area to be honored for their achievements. Ian is definitely a kiddo that realizes Knowledge Is Dynamite (Kiwanis K.I.D.)!”
