Fairfield golf picked up a nice win, beating Angola by two strokes, 214-216, and also toppling Hamilton’s 247 Tuesday night in Steuben County.
A 45 from Bella Blosser and 47 from Mallory McGowen were one-two in the field, and the 60 from Adie Holsopple and 62 from Whitney Wogoman were enough to garner two wins. Vienna Griffith added a 65 as the fifth score.
Boys tennis earned another big win out of conference, this time taking down Concord, 3-2, Tuesday in Dunlap. Cameron Cripe and Conner LeCount came up huge, winning three and four at two dubs to seal the victory. Garrett Stoltzfus and Grady Garber allowed just three games combined in their singles wins.
JV continued to roll, winning 12 of 17 contests against the Minutemen.
Fairfield made another bold statement out of conference, beating Goshen, 3-2, in a matchup of sectional contenders Friday afternoon at home. Stoltzfus picked up a singles win, one and one, but the gold came in doubles play, where Brant Garber and Andrew Mathews won two and two while Cripe and LeCount rallied from a set down to win three and three to seal up the third and winning team point.
JV also held serve against the RedHawks, winning 11 of 18 contests.
At Saturday’s Wawasee Invite, the host Warriors surprised Fairfield with a 3-2 win before Fairfield finished off Tippecanoe Valley, 5-0, and Jimtown, 4-1. Highlighting the tournament was Stoltzfus, who won all three of his contests with 6-0, 6-0 scorelines. Garber and Mathews also won all three of their matches.
Against the defending NECC volleyball champ Angola Tuesday evening, Fairfield needed time to catch up, did, but ran out of gas in a 3-1 loss to the Hornets. After a first game loss, Fairfield rallied to take a lead in game two, but Angola responded with 13 of the final 16 points in game two. Fairfield would hold off Angola in game three, 26-24, only for Angola to respond with a closeout in game four. Elli Yoder held court in the back row with 21 digs, Abigail Graber had nine digs, eight assists and three aces, and Eva Herbert added five kills and two blocks.
Fairfield and Angola battled in the JV contest, the Hornets coming out with a tight 2-0 win. Natalie Lenker had 13 digs and five aces to lead the junior Falcons while Macy Morehouse, Rylee Sausaman and Paige Park combined for 14 kills.
The Lady Falcons went 1-2 at the Shondell Invite in Muncie over the weekend. Trinity Lutheran and Burris both beat Fairfield 2-0 but Fairfield came back and beat Fort Wayne South Side 2-0 to conclude its pool play. Stat leaders for the Falcons included Herbert with 13 kills, Yoder with 23 digs, Schwartz with 12 digs and four aces, Maddie Miller with 29 digs and three aces and Worthman with 11 kills. Yoder and Schwartz were named to the All-Tournament Team for their play in Muncie.
Football did not get anything going against a motivated Jimtown squad Friday night. The Jimmies scored 28 points in the first quarter en route to a 35-0 final at Fairfield. The Jimtown defense was impressive, holding Fairfield to just 29 net yards on the night. Defensively, Breckan Maran and Blake Metzger each finished with nine tackles and Eli Miller had eight stops.
Cross Country ran Saturday at the Manchester Invite, the boys team finishing seventh and the girls eighth among the two dozen teams in the respective fields. Leading the boys crew were Evan Correll and Carson Correll, Evan ninth overall at 16:27 and Carson in 27th at 17:38. The girls saw Natalee Lambright place 14th overall at 19:57 and Lyla Dennis place 39th at 21:15. Wabash and Valpo were the boys and girls team champs.
