Looks of utter joy, determination and fellowship were just the tip of the iceberg at Monday's Life Skills Valentine's Day Dance. And those were from most of the student volunteers there to help run the event.
Fairfield Jr/Sr High School hosted the Life Skills dance, transforming the auxiliary gym into a dance hall complete with a light show, plenty of balloons, an art corner, a photo booth, and it was all preceded by a lunch from provided by the Fairfield PAC.
Guests from Fairfield, NorthWood, Goshen, Concord, Jimtown, Northridge and the Goshen Young Adult Program were on hand, along with a few dozen Fairfield students to liven up the party (and help with the party's organization).
This is the second year Fairfield has hosted the Valentine's Day Dance, and organizer Stacey Mehlberg was overjoyed with how the event turned out.
“I hope, honestly, that everyone just has a really good time,” Mehlberg said while tearing down some tables after the dance. “I hope this is a highlight of their year.”
DJ Cody Stewart worked the wheels of steel and kept the dance music going while the honors art students helped create artwork with interested guests who needed a break from dancing.
“I think the inclusion part is the most important thing for both sides, and we see that here,” added Mehlberg. “You have groups like boys basketball and cheerleading here, and they are right in the middle having a great time with kids from Jimtown and Goshen. It really makes me happy to see this be such a great event.”
