Wrestling held its senior night Thursday night on the final home date of the high school calendar.
Central Noble would score the team win, 51-25, but again, did so as Fairfield gave up 24 points off the jump on forfeited weight classes.

Matthew Senn opened the night with a pin at 3:34 against Arthur Armor and donned the Falcon Pin chain while the middle of the lineup had Aldahir Ortiz score a takedown with one second left of a 5-4 decision over Sam Hoover. Ryan Noel followed up with a 1:14 pin of Jacob Chenuweth and Breckan Maran had no problems with Parker Boots in a 14-5 major. Brockton Miller had the other six points for the Falcons via forfeit.

Landon Beasy added a pin in the JV contests, a first-rounder at 1:10.

Just one weekend snippet from the program, and that was Kayla Hochstetler active at Saturday’s Central Noble Girls Invite. Hochstetler went 2-3 on the day in the 130-pound bracket round robin, scoring pins against Wawasee and Wabash among her work.

Coach Gene Willard also made note of the junior high wrestling season that is rapidly approaching.

The season begins Jan. 8, which is the Monday returning from winter break. Practices start daily at 3:30 p.m. in the wrestling room, and wrestlers in grades 5-8 are asked to provide their own wrestling shoes and headgear. Athletes needing help with these items are asked to contact coach Willard (gwillard@fairfield.k12.in.us). First match is slated for Wed., Jan. 24, at Churubusco with the first home date Feb. 9 against Fremont.

It wasn’t the cleanest game Fairfield has played, but a win was a win Tuesday. After grinding to just a two-point lead at the half against visiting Fremont, it was a 23-12 second half in favor of the hosts in a 48-35 girls basketball win for the Lady Falcons.

Fairfield hit six three-pointers in the game, three by Natalie Whitaker and two by Eva Herbert, both combining for 25 points on the night. Whitaker added seven rebounds and Herbert had five assists. Zoie Miller added eight points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Aubrey Wogomon went off for 17 points - 14 in the second half - as Fairfield’s JV kept Fremont at bay in a 39-29 win. The Fairfield defense held Fremont without a bucket for over 10 minutes of the first half en route to the victory.

Life was a lot easier for the girls Friday in hosting Elkhart Christian, storming out to a 24-7 lead at the half in a 51-18 performance. Fairfield (11-1) hit eight three’s on the night, led by Herbert’s three triples and 15 total points. Whitaker and Kaylee Dillon each hit a pair and combined for 18 points and Dillon added seven steals on the defensive end.

Wogomon scored a career-high 21 points in the JV contest as Fairfield rolled to a 47-18 win over the Eagles. Maddie Leatherman and Maddy Miller each added six points in the team’s ninth win of the season.

Just one game for the high school boys over the past seven days, that a home contest against rival Jimtown. Fairfield hit four threes in the first quarter to take a six-point lead, then dropped 21 points to begin the second half of a 66-51 win. Mitchell Miller was the high man for the Falcons (3-3) with 21 points and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Tyson Frey worked the inside to the tune of 16 points and Brant Garber added a pair of threes in the win.

Grady Garber hit a trio of triples to held Fairfield cruise to a 45-17 JV win over the Jimmies. Isaac Mast and Cole Knight each finished with eight points in the dub.
