It would be super easy to just think pool, hang out, flip through the phone all day. Not for three of our Fairfield High School students, who decided to stay on campus all summer and work their tails off. Get your fix on these kids here: https://www.fairfield.k12.in.us/article/1179972

Our final week of summer camps was a hot one as marching band finished up their two-week marathon session while boys basketball completed its final of five weeks in the gym. Thank you to all of the kids who participated in our Fairfield camps this summer, and to the coaches, directors and students/athletes who helped create lasting memories for the future of our programs!

Football and cheerleading each celebrated their futures with kids camps this past week, both with good numbers for their mid-July dates. Boys basketball held its fourth week of the summer-long camp schedule. Marching band also ventured into its two-week grid, week one a full-day slate of work inside and outside as it prepares for the upcoming season. This upcoming week is the final week for the Fairfield summer camps, with boys basketball holding its fifth and final session and marching band entering week two, both Monday-Thursday slates.

It's been four years in the making, and Fairfield finally made its Spanish class trip! The group of 17 students in grades 9-11 made a nine-day visit to Costa Rica, escorted by teachers Mrs. Mercer-Nelson and Mrs. Herbert leading the trip and Mr. LeCount, Mrs. Schumacher and Mrs. Shreck serving as chaperones. The purpose was to get to know another culture, practice Spanish and visit beautiful places. The goal is to take trips like this every 2-3 years. The previous trip was supposed to have incorporated the 2019-20 school year, but was derailed by COVID.

Fourth of July
June wrapped up with a pair of camps ahead of the July 4th weekend. Baseball had its week-long camp altered because of the smoke/air quality alerts, but made the best of it for a couple days in the high school gym. The scenes mimicked what the high school preseason looks like, hitting into batting screens and working on fielding drills. Boys basketball wrapped up a third week of camp, working primarily on live action situations, getting in-game instruction and working on reactivity. Fairfield camps will take a week off for moratorium, but will come back with a flurry. Boys basketball hits week four and marching band begins it's two-week camp, both starting July 10, while football and cheerleading both have evening camps that start July 11.

4-H Fair Event
Fun was had until fun couldn't be had Sunday as the Fairfield 12th Man Club Golf Outing took place amongst some weather at Maxwelton Golf Club in Syracuse. The 1 p.m. shotgun start had 22 teams play the course until a big thunderstorm halted play just after 3 p.m. One of the event organizers said the storm washed out the remaining play, which most teams were into the second halves of their scramble. The 12th Man outing supports the Fairfield football program with team expenses, as well as promotes the team and its initiatives. If you'd like to learn more about the Fairfield 12th Man Club, contact Jessica Dunlap or Candi Tobias at Fairfield Jr/Sr High School or email fairfield12thmanclub@gmail.com

Also going on in a baseball stadium in Indiana was the Indiana North-South All-Star Games, hosted by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association. The three-day event last weekend was held at Loeb Stadium in Lafayette. Taking part were Fairfield graduated senior Alec Hershberger and Fairfield baseball head coach Darin Kauffman, who served as one of the assistant coaches. The South won game one, 4-3, while the North rallied for a 6-4 win in game two. In the Wooden Bat Game on Sunday, Hershberger started and went 2.2 innings, giving up three hits and striking out eight while walking one. The South would go on to win the final contest, 11-6. Hershberger is headed to Taylor University to continue his academic and baseball careers.
