FJHS 7th Grade Champs

It was a grand finish on a gloomy night for the varsity football team, shutting out Churubusco 33-0 on a sloppy track Friday night.
The Falcons ground out a whopping 431 yards on the ground, led by Blake Metzger’s 168 yards and two scores and Breckan Maran’s 146 yards and a score. Ethan Schmucker and Brooks Custer also added rushing scores for the Falcons.
Fairfield also had a sack and seven tackles for a loss on the defensive side, and Metzger made the defensive play of the game, chasing down a Busco runner after an 80-yard run down the middle of the field to save a touchdown. The defense would hold the Eagles out of the end zone on four plays to preserve the shutout heading into the half.
Fairfield (5-4) will host Jimtown (4-5) in the first round of the Class 3-A Sectional No. 26 next Friday, a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Seventh grade wrapped up its season 6-1 and champions of the Northeast Corner Conference following a 41-0 shutout win at Lakeland last Tuesday. Contributing to the point scoring in the win included Colten Faulkner, Bentley Smythe, Ethan Brown, Lucas Miller and Anthony Tobias as well as extra points from Arion Ellsworth.
The win was the sixth in a row following a week one loss at Wawasee. In those wins, Fairfield allowed just 20 points, which was highlighted by four shutouts, and was plus-141 this season in scoring.
The eighth grade team finished on a two-game win streak after beating Lakeland, 18-8, Tuesday to conclude its season. The eighth graders were 4-4 on the campaign, allowing just two touchdowns in the four games it won.

Cross Country kept its season alive in full on the girls side, grabbing the fifth and final team advancement ticket at Saturday’s Elkhart Cross Country Sectional. Kaitlyn Kuhn led the Lady Falcons with a top-15 finish, taking 15th overall at 21:01. Trailing close behind were Natalee Lambright (21:08), Lyla Dennis (21:14) and Lorelei Shively (21:47). Claire Foust was the fifth score with a time of 22:52. Fairfield needed every position as it edged NorthWood by 10 points for the regional advancement this weekend at New Prairie. Northridge held off Goshen by three points to take the team title.
The boys didn’t advance its full team, placing eighth, but have three runners moving on. Evan Correll (17:21), Ethan Garcia-Mendoza (17:52) and Luke Mast (18:13) all landed within the 15 individuals without an advancing team to continue their seasons at the New Prairie Regional. Carson Correll (18:41) and Aiden Bender (18:43) were the four and five scores for Fairfield. Northridge also edged out Goshen on the boys side for the team title.

Volleyball’s season came to an end in the semi-finals of the Wawasee Volleyball Sectional, losing in straight sets to NorthWood, 25-13, 25-14, 25-12.
Stat leaders for the Lady Falcons included McKenna Fisher and Madison Jones with four kills each, Fisher and Amanda McGuire combined for 20 digs, McGuire had two aces, Maddy Miller assisted on 11 points and both Eva Herbert and Macy Worthman had a block. Fairfield concludes its season 11-19 overall. NorthWood would knock off Wawasee Saturday night to win its fifth straight sectional championship.
