Thor at BES

In a community surrounded by the industry, it was fitting and perhaps advantageous for Benton Elementary fifth graders to have a chance to see what's being built in some of their backyards.

Thor Industries made a stop at Benton Thursday to give students a chance to see up close and personal some of their shiny recreational vehicles as well as work hands on with some crafting. The visit was broken up into three parts: a live demo of two RVs in the south parking lot, hosted by Thor Motor Coach representatives Anissa Blosser and Rick Schutt, as well as activity book and Lego building sessions hosted by Elkhart High School interns Michael Kissel and Tairyn Null.

“It's a great opportunity for us to get into the schools,” Blosser stated. “There's a lot of kids who have family members who work in the RV industry and don't really have a clue what these units look like.”

Each of the classes were brought outside to tour the RVs and ask questions about them, including what gaming systems can be hooked up to the TVs and how big the beds are. Inside at the cafeteria, students were given model instructions to build RVs out of Legos, and adjoining tables that worked on activity books.
