Another NECC trophy has been claimed by Fairfield! The baseball team finished out a perfect 10-0 run through the conference after a come-from-behind 8-4 win over West Noble Thursday night. Trailing 4-1 in the fifth, Fairfield used a two-out rally that had six unearned runs come in. Landon Miller was the hero on the mound, striking out 12 in relief while Sawyer Ernsberger had a huge two-out hit during Fairfield's rally. The team earns its first outright conference title since 2013 and hits the 20-win mark for the season.

Ryan LeCount's US Government classes at Fairfield Jr/Sr High School were part of a unique experience regarding elections and the voting process. Actual voting machines were brought into the library at FJSHS, and members of the classes formulated election "campaigns" to garner voting momentum for their peers in casting votes. Election outreach coordinators from the county were brought in to help with the process, which directly gave the students a mock voting experience.

Everyone wants a voice in the world, it's just a matter of how you speak. And for some, speaking is a little more difficult. Fairfield recognizes that by employing speech pathologists, like Faith Mahony shown here with her students at New Paris Elementary. Hers and others' work with our students help put our kids on the right track to have a say in this awesome world we live in. Thank you to those who serve our students as we recognize National Speech Pathologist's Day!

Jill Anderson's veterinary class at Fairfield ventured to a local breeding facility to assist with annual exams and vaccinations. The onsite opportunity furthers what the students are already learning within the classroom during the year, and a nice way to punctuate the end of the year. Special thanks to Anderson for providing the photos!

Bienvenidos! The New Paris fifth graders in Tim Haines' class held the annual Spanish Market. It was about the hustle: the students in Haines' class learned and experienced a mini economy in selling goods while the incoming classes from around the school were given $20 (play money) to purchase the actual commodities. From cans of Mello Yello to football cards, from braided bracelets to Reese Cups, everything was for sale. Haines noted the students take 15 minutes every Friday to learn basic Spanish, and those simple nouns and verbs were encouraged to be part of the buy/sell atmosphere.

Students in Alex Yoder's fifth grade class at Benton held the annual 'Wax Museum Day'. Students dressed up like any of the historical figures they have learned about from the beginning of the school year, and created a presentation about what they know about the person and the history that surrounds their story. Students from other Benton classes were the audience for the museum day.

Tourney time is slowing creeping up, and with it, a little focus on the conference races. Fairfield’s Lady Falcons took on the NECC in the girls track championships Wednesday. The team placed seventh overall and had two athletes place in the top three of their events. Jalyn Stofleth cleared 9-0 in pole vault, but was bested by Angola’s Kylie Caswell, who hit 9-0 first to take the title on standards. Stofleth was named All-NECC for her efforts. Madelyn Culp was third overall in long jump, her best flight went 16-1.75. Full results were not immediately available from the boys NECC track championships, but Nic Hofer was named All-NECC in shot put and Marco Garcia was named All-NECC in the 100 meters. Baseball opened its week with another solid non-conference win, knocking off Class 2-A No. 7 South Central Union Mills 5-1. Keegan Miller went 5.1 innings, not allowing a run and striking out six. Mitchell Miller had two hits, a run and RBI. The JV dimed Hamilton on Tuesday in an 11-1 final on the road. Hunter Kauffman pitched a complete game, striking out seven. The junior high team clubbed Goshen, 19-3, led by Ben Penrose’s three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored. Alec Hershberger tossed a no-hitter Thursday, allowing just one walk in a 14-0 Fairfield win over Prairie Heights. Hershberger struck out nine in the win, and had help from Michael Slabaugh, who mashed two homers and drove in three. Cohen Yoder hit his first career homer and scored three runs. Saturday evening, Fairfield knocked off its second ranked team of the week, beating Class 2-A No. 8 Rochester, 5-4. Keegan Miller ran his record to 7-0 on the season with a complete game on the mound, striking out seven.Yoder and Owen Garrison each doubled and drove in two for the Falcons. Tennis locked up the NECC regular season title with a 5-0 win over Angola Tuesday evening. Addison Mast and the two dubs team of Ella Branneman and Malley Behles swept their opponents as part of the championship-clinching effort. JV won nine of the 11 matches with the Hornets. The NECC tournament will conclude this afternoon at Westview after a weekend of rain, but not before Mast closed out the one singles championship over Westview. The Falcons have three more courts in championship matches in a points showdown with Westview for the team title. Fairfield kept its name in the NECC softball race early in the week with a huge 6-5 win over Central Noble. Bailey Willard had three hits, Makayla Culp added three runs and three stolen bases, and Faith Berkey notched her 12th pitching win of the season. Marian hosted Fairfield Tuesday and closed out a dimer, 11-1. In the upset of the regular season, Prairie Heights knocked off Fairfield, 3-2, to give Eastside the NECC regular season title in addition to the tourney title. Jasylynn Hall had two hits to lead the Fairfield offense. Fairfield golf added two more NECC wins to its ledger, shooting 154 to best Lakeland (163) and Eastside (200). Andrew Miller had a 38 and Jasper Carl added a 39 as personal bests for each in the wins. Brayden Miller shot a school record 67 on Saturday, but was a shot back of medalist honors Saturday at the Angola Invite. Fairfield shot a season-best 312 to finish third at the invite, trailing both champion Westfield and Guerin Catholic’s 290s. Miles Nine added a season-best 72 to help the Falcons. Fairfield dropped a pair of junior high golf contests Tuesday, shooting 209 in trailing both Westview and Angola. Eli Kio had a personal best with a 45 in the match.

Geraldo Rivera wasn't on hand for it, but this time around, there was a surprise in the secret tomb! Millersburg Elementary opened its sarcophagus in the library to see what was inside, and turns out it was a mummy! Earlier in the year, some third graders made Egyptian "artifacts," and fourth graders made a model of the Seti I temple in Abydos. These were part of the sarcophagus event, a fun discovery for both grades to enjoy!
