It was so notable, we moved it to the top of the list.

Thursday saw history at Fairfield as Garrett Stoltzfus became the first known boys tennis player in Fairfield program history to win a Golden Match, completely shutting out Lakeland’s Maxwell Mishler. It wasn’t just a 6-0, 6-0 win, but Stoltzfus didn’t allow a point in the matchup - not one double fault, not one Mishler winner, not an unforced error. Truly a brilliant performance from the Fairfield senior.

Fairfield won the overall matchup 5-0, with all three singles courts winning love-love as did one doubles. Kohen Miller earned his first varsity singles victory at No. 3. Brockton Miller and Jaydon Riegsecker teamed up for a one and three win at two doubles for their first varsity dual win.

JV won both of its contests with the Lakers.

Fairfield got a fight from Fremont Monday, but came through with a 3-2 win. Stoltzfus and Drew Beachy allowed just four games in their one and two singles wins, but Brant Garber and Andrew Mathews needed a 7-5 win after a shutout of the first set at one doubles.

Fairfield JV took on Bethany and won 14 of 15 courts.

The Falcons made relatively quick work of Central Noble Tuesday, beating the visitors 5-0. Stoltzfus led the way with a shutout at one singles, and the combo of Beachy and Grady Garber allowed just four games in their straight-set wins. Nate Bailey and Conner LeCount teamed for the first time this season and won one and four, and Cameron Cripe and Mathews also paired for the first time to win 7-5, 7-5.

JV won its two contests against the Cougars.

Wednesday served as the date for the NECC cross country Super Duals at Central Noble, and gave quite a precursor for the conference championships in a couple weeks. The boys race was a four-team gridlock at the top of the standings, with Angola edging out West Noble by a point and Fairfield by two points to run 7-0 in the Supers. West Noble beat Fairfield by one and the Falcons beat Westview by five in a cluster of contenders atop the ledger. The series left Fairfield 7-2 for the afternoon. The girls found themselves squarely in the middle of the NECC race standings at 4-3 overall.

Leading the way for the Fairfield boys were Evan Correll (4th, 17:06), Carson Correll (10, 18:00) and Kaden Decker (19, 18:44) while the Lady Falcons were paced by Natalee Lambright (9, 22:30), Lyla Dennis (11, 22:43) and Lorelei Shively (16, 23:21).

Angola’s boys and Westview’s girls were both 7-0 and winners of the Super Duals, with Westview’s Noah Bontrager (16:07) the boy’s race winner and Prairie Heights’ Ashlynn Myers (19:35) the girl’s race winner.

The Fairfield boys ran Saturday at the Minuteman Classic at OxBow, finishing ninth in the team standings in one of the fastest individual races of the year. The top three times at the race, led by Mishawaka’s Liam Bauschke at 15:20, were top seven times this season in Indiana. Evan Correll led Fairfield with a 16:48, good for 12th overall, and Carson Correll had a 17:38, good for 40th overall. In the reserve race, Larry Cobern led Fairfield with a 33rd spot at 20:27.

In a rare appearance at Wawasee Golf Club, Fairfield and Elkhart each tied with a 199 Monday evening, but the Lions got the tiebreaker score by eight strokes to claim the team win. Wawasee finished at 207 to give Fairfield girls golf a split.

Bella Blosser worked the course to medal the round at 39, and was followed by a 48 from Mallory McGowen, 55 from Adie Holsopple and 57 from Whitney Wogoman.

Saturday had Fairfield competing at the NECC Tournament at Heron Creek, where the Lady Falcons placed third overall as a team with a 411. Fremont won the team title going away at 376, with Garrett as runner-up at 404. Fairfield had Blosser and McGowen earn All-NECC honors, Blosser the tourney runner-up with an 89 and McGowen seventh at 98. Adie Holsopple finished just outside of conference honors in 16th at 110. Emery Laughlin of Fremont won medalist honors with a championship round of 85.

The Lady Falcons volleyball program picked up a pair of wins in the NECC this past week, starting with a 3-0 varsity win over Garrett Tuesday night. Lacy Stoltzfus stepped up at the net with eight kills, while Eva Herbert and Macy Worthman combined for 17 putaways. In two games separated by just six points, defense was key and Fairfield got 30 combined digs from Elli Yoder, Ariana Schwartz and Paige Park.

Ten combined aces from Jenna Fought, Natalie Lender and Camila Campos-Reyes helped the JV to a 2-0 win over the Railroaders.

Varsity had to work, but scratched out a 3-0 win over Prairie Heights, winning by three, three and four points. Herbert led the attack with 11 kills, Abigail Graber had 16 assists and Schwartz added 21 digs. The JV had three kills apiece from Rylee Sausaman and Jaida Fry in a 2-0 win over the Heights. C started the night with a 2-0 win over the visitors.

Fairfield completed a full junior high sweep of Lakeland Thursday, winning 2-0 for both sixth grade, seventh grade and eighth grade programs.

And finally, Fairfield’s offense woke up in a big way Friday night, notably Breckan Maran, who rushed for 235 yards with five touchdowns in a 48-33 football win over Culver Academy on Homecoming. Maran, who was named Homecoming King at halftime, rushed 29 times, averaging 8.1 yards per carry and also converted a pair of two-point tries. Blake Metzger had 16 carries for 123 yards and Brooks Custer added a touchdown for the Falcons, which hadn’t scored in its last two games after hanging 55 on Goshen in week one.

Hunter Kauffman led the defense with 10 tackles and Eli Miller was also stout on the defensive end with seven stops.
