Addie Mast started her week with a shutout of Reece Weber at one singles to lead Fairfield to a 4-1 win at Angola, capping a 9-0 NECC regular season girls tennis team championship.Taylor Schreck got back on track with a marathon win at two singles, taking it 6-3, 4-6, 10-8, and Allie Stahly capped the singles streak with a 6-3, 6-4 win at three singles. Eva Herbert and Lacy Stoltzfus added a two and love win at two dubs.
Mast would run through the NECC tournament undefeated to claim the No. 1 singles title, winning by shutout in the final. Herbert and Stoltzfus also won their bracket, taking the No. 2 doubles title to highlight Fairfield’s showing in the tournament. The Lady Falcons were runner-up in the team tournament, edged out by Westview, 54-51, in the team ledger. Stahly was runner-up at No. 3 singles and the No. 1 doubles duo of Elise Schwartz and Amanda McGuire were also runner-up. Schreck was fifth in the No. 2 singles bracket.
All-NECC First Team nods went to Mast, McGuire, Schwartz, Stoltzfus and Herbert while Stahly was Honorable Mention All-NECC.
A little over a week after falling to the Cougars in the NECC tournament final, Fairfield returned to Albion for the regular season softball contest and beat the hosts, 8-4, Monday night. Jayslynn Hall pounded her seventh homer of the season and Madison Jones added three hits and three RBIs in the win. Kinslyn Pressler went the distance to get the pitching victory.
Prairie Heights stunned Fairfield with three early runs and held on to win, 3-2, Thursday night at Fairfield. The Lady Falcons managed just two hits, one a solo homer from Hall, her eighth bomb of the season, and an RBI single from Pressler.
The JV played a two-inning exhibition, called at 14-6 in favor of Prairie Heights. Savannah Buss drove in three for the hosts.
Fairfield consistently put pressure on Prairie Heights in an 11-0 baseball NECC win Thursday. Landon Miller tossed a no-hitter, walking just two with nine Ks in a dominant performance. Owen Garrison was three-for-three with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Luke Mast also reached base three times and stole three bases.
Fairfield hosted Warsaw and Frankfort Saturday for the Falcon Invite, splitting the two contests. Warsaw stayed ahead of Fairfield in a 4-1 Tiger win in game one, while the Falcons topped the Hot Dogs in game two, 3-1. Fairfield managed just three hits in the loss, Eli Miller leading the Falcons by reaching base three times. In the game two win, Keegan Miller allowed just three hits over five innings and added a key RBI at the plate to put Fairfield over. Michael Slabaugh reached base three times and drove in a run to aid the winning cause.
Fairfield JV got in some work Friday night, rushing past Marian 8-1. Avery Christner had a triple and two driven in at the plate, and Grady Garber tossed a complete game, allowing just the one earned run and striking out eight.
Fairfield added two more NECC boys golf wins Monday, shooting 160 to top Central Noble (177) and Prairie Heights (192). The Falcons moved to 7-0 in the NECC with the win, led again by Brayden Miller, locked in with a three-under 33. Miles Nine and Jasper Carl were next up at 40 and 42, respectively, and Ben Kio had the fourth score at 45.
Miller finished third and Nine was sixth as Fairfield carded a 334 to place third at Saturday’s Angola Invite at Glendarin Hills. Miller shot 76 and Nine was two back of Miller at 78, followed by Jasper Carl at 89, Jake Elliott at 91 and Ben Kio at 96. Guerin Catholic, ranked No. 2 in the state, won the tournament with a fantastic round of 313.
Fairfield was pushed by Central Noble in junior high track and field Monday evening, but the Falcons came through victorious on both sides of the meet. The boys won 60-58, getting a strong showing in the field with four wins, Gavin Lash winning shot put (42-6.5), Dylan Titterington owning discus (114-11), Casen Custer flying 15-7 in long jump and Brandt Sark leading the way in high jump at 5-2.
The girls had a little more wiggle room with a 75-43 win, paced by a double win by Lana Cripe in shot (21-5) and disc (56-5) as well as a 100 hurdles win from Amy Bechtel (19.51).
